A man's body was found in a smoking room in St. Mary's Hospital following a fire on the third floor Thursday morning.

The fire broke out at around 10 a.m. at the hospital on Lacombe Avenue

It was quickly extinguished by firefighters as around 300 patients and staff were evacuated.

Patients and staff were allowed to return to the hospital shortly after firefighters put out the fire.
It wasn't until after the fire was put out that emergency crews found the man's body.

He is believed to have been a patient at the hospital.

It's not yet clear if the man died as result of the fire or if his death was unrelated to the fire.

Police and fire officials are still investigating, but the hospital has returned to normal operations.
