Bill 3 protesters meet Pierre Moreau at Place Bell announcement
Protesters fighting Quebec's pension plan reforms to confront Pierre Moreau
About 100 municipal workers' union members honked their horns, hoisted picket signs and chanted noisily in Laval Monday morning to protest the province's pension reform bill.
About 100 people arrived at Laval City Hall on Monday morning holding signs and wearing T-shirts decrying the Quebec government's pension reform bill.
They were there to greet Municipal Affairs Minister Pierre Moreau, who was in Laval to announce Quebec's $46.3 million contribution to new Laval's new sports complex, Place Bell.
Bill 3 was introduced to try and rein in the province's growing pension plan deficit. Bringing employer-employee pension plan contributions to a 50-50 split is one several reforms included in the proposed legislation.
It's a main sticking point in the Couillard government's budget and has led to a public anti-reform campaign by police officers, firefighters and other municipal employees.
