Apartment fire leaves man dead in Old Longueuil

Firefighters were called to the apartment building at 2305 Westgate Street around 4 a.m. and managed to get the other residents safely out of the building.

An apartment fire in Old Longueuil early Friday morning has left one man dead.

Firefighters were called to the apartment at 2305 Westgate Street around 4 a.m. and managed to get residents of the other units safely out of the building.

The victim lived in the apartment where the fire started and had inhaled smoke.

Emergency personnel tried to revive him at the scene but did not succeed.

The fire was limited to the one apartment and its cause is not known.

A perimeter has been set up around the building.
