A Quebec man charged in the death of a 21-year-old university student has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Marc-Olivier Perras, 21, the former boyfriend of the victim, was officially charged in a Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courtroom Thursday.

Karine Faubert was found dead with several gunshot wounds on Friday, near a rural hiking trail outside Godmanchester, a small community southwest of Montreal.

Police tracked down her car in a nearby church parking lot two days later.

The accused lives in St. Stanislas-de-Kostka, Que. He was arrested Wednesday.

Faubert's funeral will be held Aug. 27 in Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, her hometown.

Perras is scheduled to make another court appearance on Sept. 1.
