4-alarm fire in Quebec City forces evacuation of numerous apartments

A four-alarm fire in an old hardware store forced the evacuation of neighbouring apartment buildings in Quebec City late Monday night.

A four-alarm fire in an old hardware store forced the evacuation of neighbouring apartment buildings in Quebec City late Monday night.

Emergency services were called to the two-storey building at 481 Franklin Street around 9:20 p.m. Eighty firefighters arrived at the scene to fight the fire.

"The fire was in the basement and once firefighters arrived at the scene they evacuated the neighbouring buildings which had numerous units," Quebec City fire department spokesperson Bill Nomman said.
