3 of 4 Montreal metro smoke bomb suspects get bail
Three of four people arrested in connection with last week's Montreal metro smoke bombings have been given bail with dozens of restrictions, including a 9 p.m. curfew.
Roxanne Bélisle, 23, Vanessa L'Écuyer, 22, and Geneviève Vaillancourt, 25, were released from custody Friday after each paying $3,000.
The three must keep the peace and refrain from contacting each other. They also have to respect a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, unless accompanied by a parent.
Their conditions allow them to take part in public protests if they are peaceful - but they can't wear a mask, carry a bag or carry a container.
A fourth suspect arrested François Vivier Gagnon, will remain in detention until his bail hearing on May 23.
The four were charged with mischief over $5,000 and inciting fear of a terrorist act, a Canadian Criminal Code charge introduced in 2004 following the 9/11 attacks in New York City.
They turned themselves into authorities two days after a coordinated smoke bomb attack in three Montreal subway stations shut down the underground network at the height of morning rush hour.
Bail conditions:
- Keep the peace.
- Respect curfew.
- Stay out of metro system, and keep a 300-metre distance from any station.
- Keep 300 metres away from school institutions.
- Report to police every two weeks.
