Police are confirming that the 36-year-old taxi driver shot in St-Leonard early Thursday morning has died of his injuries.

Police are confirming that the 36-year-old taxi driver shot in St-Leonard early Thursday morning has died of his injuries.

The victim suffered "at least one projectile of a gun," according to Const. André Leclerc.

Police were called to the corner of Domrémy and Laus streets at around 2:15 a.m. Thursday morning after receiving calls about gunfire in the area.

The man is the first homicide victim of the year in Montreal.

According to police, by this date in 2015 there were eight homicides in the Montreal area.
