Workers at Crown Royal plant vote in favour of strike

Workers who produce Crown Royal and the award-winning Crown Royal Northern Rye whiskies voted unanimously on Wednesday in favour of a strike.

All 53 United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) 832 members agreed to walk off the job if a deal is not reached by Friday, March 4 at midnight.
The employees work at the Diageo Canada plant that produces Crown Royal in Gimli, Man.
Talks between the union and the employer are scheduled to resume on February 16, said UFCW.
"The bargaining committee believes that the strong strike mandate will help them at the table to achieve a fair deal," said a statement Wednesday on the UFCW website.
Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye was named whisky of the year for 2016 after being called a "masterpiece" by renowned British whisky expert Jim Murray last year.
