Fabrics on fire at West End business, fire chief says

Emergency crews were on scene Wednesday evening fighting a fire at a business on Sargent Avenue in Winnipeg's West End.

Firefighters were called to Neena Fashions on Sargent Avenue around 6:30 p.m.

Emergency crews were on scene Wednesday evening fighting a fire at a clothing and fabric store on Sargent Avenue in Winnipeg's West End.

District Chief Dan Tomchuk said crews were called shortly before 6:30 p.m. and found heavy black smoke inside the store.

He said the fire was inside the textiles at the store, which advertises clothing, fabric and blankets on its sign.

Tomchuk said there was nobody in the building when the fire broke out. He said business owners had left the building around 6 p.m.

Tomchuk couldn't estimate the damage for the building. and said he cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Sargent Avenue was temporarily blocked off in both directions between Toronto Street and Victor street as crews worked.
