Winnipeg's first cat café opens
With purrs and pets Winnipeg's first cat café opened up on Saturday.
Miss J.La's Fur Babies Cat Café and adoption centre opened with the kittens twirling under their toys, which was suiting since the café is located in a dance studio at 1099 Kingsbury Ave.
"We're mostly an adoption centre. We foster these cats and we try to find them homes," said Jennifer Laferriere, the owner and founder.
Laferriere said she can have up to 15 cats in the café.
"We don't want to overwhelm cats or anything but they come first," she said.
Although they are fun to pet while sipping a coffee, Laferriere said she hopes that people will also want to take them home.
"I don't think it will be hard. They're adorable," she said.
"I love cats. They're like my thing. I have two," he said, adding the kittens are a bit more energetic.
"They're small, they're fast. They like playing with the toys. My cat just sits around, lays around."
"If you're not happy, you should have an animal around," she said.
"It makes me happy. It means a lot. I hope they stay open."
Laferriere is looking for volunteers to help make that happen.
The cafe can be contacted through their Facebook page.
