WestJet is establishing a direct flight from Winnipeg to London, England starting in May 2016, according to online reports.

The airline announced a press event and "high tea" for Tuesday morning and promised a "major new route announcement."

In June, the airline announced London as the first transatlantic destination from Canada for its Boeing 767-300s. The flights will land in London's Gatwick airport.

Reports also point to Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, St. John's and Edmonton as cities getting direct flights to the European destination.
