A teen boy is dead after the vehicle he was driving collided with a horse in western Manitoba.

According to RCMP, the 17 year old was traveling eastbound on Highway 20, about five kilometres east of Cowan, when he struck the animal at about 11 p.m. on Saturday.

The teen, from Pine Creek First Nation, was pronounced dead on the scene while three passengers — aged 15, 16 and 30 — were transported to the Swan Valley Regional Health Centre.

The 30-year-old woman was then airlifted to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg where she is listed in stable condition.

Alcohol is not considered a factor but it is believed the driver was not wearing a seat belt, RCMP said.

Cowan is located about 435 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, near Duck Mountain Provincial Park.
