An employee of the Stony Mountain Institution has been charged with trying to bring drugs into the prison just north of Winnipeg.

John Wallace Lightfoot, a masonry instructor at the medium-security institution, was charged Thursday with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He's accused of trying to bring marijuana, morphine, crystal meth and ecstasy into the prison.

Lightfoot was arrested on July 26 after a call from officials at the prison. He has been released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 19.

RCMP said they seized drugs and cash from a vehicle parked outside Stony Mountain.
