The lockdown status at Stony Mountain Institution has eased somewhat following a double stabbing on Monday.

Officials at the federal prison, just north of Winnipeg, met Wednesday morning and downgraded the full lockdown to a modified one. That means the unit where the incident occurred remains on lockdown but the rest of the prison has returned to normal routines.

Two victims were taken to hospital after staff found them Monday night. One was treated and released but one remains in hospital under observation.

Stony Mountain is a medium-security federal penitentiary that houses more than 600 inmates.
