Winnipeg city crews closed part of William Avenue on Thursday night due to a sinkhole in the roadway.

Police say the side streets that feed into the affected stretch of William Avenue, between Arlington and McPhillips streets, have also been barricaded.

The sinkhole may not look very large, but a CBC News videographer who came close to the crater said there does not appear to be much supporting the surrounding road surface.

Police did not say when the street will reopen to traffic.

Winnipeggers have had to contend with a number of sinkholes in recent weeks, with some raising safety concerns related to the damaged roads.
