Security camera footage posted online appears to show a brazen overnight attempted theft at a Winnipeg car dealership. And a lot of people have seen the alleged thieves at work — within a day of its posting, the video had already been viewed more than 115,000 times on YouTube.
The video, posted by the Winnipeg company BIL Security, shows a Pontiac minivan pulling into the auto lot in the early morning hours of May 24. In the video, the van parks beside a row of new trucks and SUVs at the dealership, which is in the 1700 block of Waverley Street.
At approximately 12:40 a.m., according to the video's timestamp, two people can be seen getting out of the van before removing wheels from a large SUV parked next to it. They then put the wheels, including the rims, into their van.
Winnipeg police said they arrived at the dealership shortly before 1 a.m., and the suspects ran east from the dealership.
Officers tracked one of the suspects and arrested a 26-year-old man, who is known to police, a short distance from the dealership.
A 16-year-old suspect was later arrested at a residence in the St. Vital neighbourhood, police said.
