Winnipeg singer-songwriter Erika Fowler will represent Manitoba in CBC Music's national contest, Searchlight.

Voting is now open to determine whether the 16-year-old will have the chance to perform her song Stay during the contest's televised finale.

Fowler was chosen among more than 2,000 entries to make the Top 25 list.

The high-school student said finding out she made the semifinal list, chosen by industry experts, was "amazing."

For as long as she can remember, Fowler said, she's always been singing and coming up with her own melodies.

"I first picked up the guitar when I was about 11," she said. "Then I slowly started to drift into making my own little compositions."

Along with being a singer, Fowler also plays ukulele and piano. She sings in English and French.

Voting is open for CBC Music's Searchlight until Friday, March 17.
