Parent leaves 10-year-old daughter behind during dine-and-dash, Brandon police allege
Sister and brother face 'food by fraud' charges after alleged dine-and-dash in Manitoba
A sister and brother are facing charges of what police are calling "food by fraud" after allegedly dining and dashing from a Brandon, Man., restaurant — and leaving the woman's 10-year-old daughter behind.
The manager of the restaurant told police the pair came in with a child and ran up a tab of about $135 with food and drinks on Tuesday night in the southwestern Manitoba city.
But just before 9 p.m., the pair bolted, leaving the woman's daughter inside the restaurant, police said.
Officers tracked down a 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman nearby. Brandon police said the two were both intoxicated and taken into custody.
The 10-year-old girl is now in the custody of Child and Family Services.
The pair, from rural Manitoba, are expected to appear in court in July, police said.
Corrections
- A Brandon Police Service report originally reported the two people charged in the case were husband and wife. On Thursday, the service issued a correction indicating the pair were actually brother and sister. This news story has been amended to reflect that change.Jun 09, 2016 1:13 PM CT
