Notre Dame fire causes estimated $1M in damage

An early morning fire in a business and residence on Notre Dame Avenue has caused an estimated $1 million in damage, police in Winnipeg say.

An early morning fire in a business and residence on Notre Dame Avenue has caused an estimated $1 million in damage, police in Winnipeg say.

One firefighter suffered burns to his hands while fighting the blaze, which was called in to the fire department at 2:55 a.m. CT.

By the time firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out of the building.

Crews tried to contain the fire but it spread to two adjoining businesses.

According to police, a subsequent investigation revealed the fire started at the rear of the block of buildings. Everyone who was inside at the time escaped without injury.

Arson investigators have been called to the scene.
