A Winnipeg businessman who once tried to buy the vacant Hecla Oasis Resort and turn it into a world-class addictions treatment centre has instead made his dream happen using the former Misty Lake Lodge.

Ian Rabb on Friday released drawings of what the Aurora Treatment and Recovery Centre will look like. The facility, located in Gimli, will become Manitoba’s first recovery centre offering medical detox.

Aurora Treatment and Recovery Centre will house 16 medical detox beds, a combination of 54 beds split for both men and women, a state of the art wellness program, mental health clinic, meditation centre, theatre featuring talks from leading speakers, a cafe, gift shop and programming. When completed in its entirety, it will house 16 medical detox beds, a combination of 54 beds split for both men and women, a state of the art wellness program, mental health clinic, meditation centre, theatre featuring talks from leading speakers, a cafe, gift shop and programming, stated a news release.

“Through these years there have been many ups and downs but every time I went to a funeral for someone who lost their battle with this struggle, met with families, saw the looks on people’s faces when there was no room anywhere for them to get help it gave me a renewed passion," Rabb said in the release.

"I think people refer to me like a dog with a bone when it comes to treatment and today I can say that it paid off. I didn’t get here alone there have been mentors, fellow former addicts, community leaders and my family who all have contributed to this success."

The facility is scheduled to open in June of 2015.

On March 16, Aurora Recovery Centre will offer a site visit and program overview for invited guests to see the progress of the transformation.
