Man, 39, dies after being stabbed at a party, Winnipeg police say
A 39-year-old man has died after being stabbed at a party, becoming Winnipeg's 27th homicide victim of 2012, police say.
Police said they were called around 6:30 p.m. CT Friday to a pizza parlour in the 500 block of Sherbrook Street, where an injured man showed up seeking help. The man had suffered stab wounds to his upper body.
He was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.
It's believed the victim was stabbed about a block from the pizza place, in a nearly vacant apartment building on Sherbrook Street, near Sargent Avenue.
Garry McKay, who lives in the apartment building, said he inadvertently came upon the scene as police were just beginning to collect evidence.
"I was trying to get to the store and I was right in the middle of the crime scene and they said I was walking through a blood trail," McKay told CBC News. "I had no idea it took place in the building."
No arrests have been made and the victim's name has not been released.
Police have ordered an autopsy.
