Woman attacked by man during evening jog in River Heights
Man followed, grabbed woman Wednesday night near Corydon Avenue and Lindsay Street, police say
A woman jogging Wednesday evening in Winnipeg's River Heights neighbourhood escaped with minor injuries after a man grabbed her, police said Thursday.
The man approached the jogger near Corydon Avenue and Lindsay Street around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and made a motion like he was asking for the time, Winnipeg police said Thursday.
The woman told him the time then continued to run, but the man followed her and then grabbed her. After a brief struggle, the woman broke out of his grasp.
"The victim felt that he tried to pull her down," said police spokesman Const. Jay Murray. "So we're not sure if there was a sexual component to this. That's something that we're still looking into."
Police said the woman suffered minor injuries.
The man is believed to be in his late 20s to early 30s, about five feet, nine inches and about 200 pounds, with an athletic build. He has short black hair and is clean-shaven.
He was wearing dark pants, dark runners, a dark-blue shirt with a white stripe down the side, sunglasses, a silver chain and a square electronic watch.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
"I think it was a struggle that anyone driving past would have taken notice to," Murray said.
