Students from Manitoba First Nations communities are getting a chance to attend summer reading camps.

The province has announced a new funding agreement with the literacy organization Frontier College.

The government says First Nations students face challenges such as geographic and socio-economic barriers.

They also lack access to summer learning opportunities.

It says the college's summer programs will help level the playing field by reducing summer learning loss and easing transition back to school in the fall.

The government is providing a total of more than $160,000 over the next two years.
