House destroyed by fire in Winnipeg
Fire destroyed a house in Winnipeg's St. Boniface neighbourhood on Wednesday.
It broke out just before 7 a.m. in the 400 block of Goulet Street, east of Youville Avenue.
The fire began in the basement and smoke was surging from the home when firefighters arrived.
Emergency crews were initially worried there may have been people inside the home, according to city officials.
Firefighters were seen searching slowly through the remains of the house to determine if it was empty or not.
However, firefighters said they believe the owner was out of town.
The blaze was brought under control within an hour. No injuries were reported, according to city officials.
No damage estimate was available, but the property has been extensively damaged.
The fire is under investigation. There's no word yet on what may have caused it.
