Horde of snakes seized from suite
A loose snake led police to a horde of reptiles inside a downtown Winnipeg apartment suite, including at least 50 snakes.
Police responded to an animal call at the suite, in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue, at 3 a.m. on Saturday when a 75-year-old man found a nearly two-metre long snake curled under the sink of his bathroom.
Animal services officers were then called and the snake was secured, but the investigation continued and led police to another suite in the building.
A search of that suite uncovered more than 50 snakes as well as some additional reptiles, police said.
A list of the types of animals found and seized was not released by police.
The owner, a 33-year-old man, is facing charges under the city's exotic animal bylaw.
