FOUR STARS | Performance poet and Fringe staple Jem Rolls sets an impressive pace

Rating: ★★★★
Company: Big Word Performance Poetry, U.K.
Genre: Spoken Word
Venue: 14 — The King's Head Pub
A staple of the Fringe for years, performance poet Jem Rolls sets an impressive pace. His joy at the toy box the English language provides is on display for a full hour, landing glancingly on mantras and homilies that amuse and sponsor recognition of shared human experiences.
Jem's quick pace can get a little relentless, and I would advise some breathing room for his audience to avoid monotony.
The loveliest thing for this reviewer was his use of particularly repetitive phrases that begin to grow with each utterance and, by the end, carry his theme.
