Homegrown talent is on the menu at Old Market Square this summer. The Exchange District BIZ is teaming up with Manitoba Music to present a series of free lunch-hour concerts highlighting local artists at The Cube stage throughout August.

Manitoba Music Live at The Cube kicks off August 1 with rock’n’roll faves Sons of York for a launch event.

(Scott Senior)The series runs noon to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with diverse lineup features performances from Juno Award nominee Don Amero, Western Canadian Music Award-nominated roots trio Sweet Alibi, pop/rock outfit The Treble, ukulele-wielding singer/songwriter Brooke Palsson, and pop newcomer Sc Mira.
The Winnipeg Folk Festival will join in the lunchtime festivities to present three concerts featuring Mariachi Ghost’s traditional Mexican twist on prog rock, Francophone pop chanteuse marijosée, and a songwriters' circle in partnership with Aboriginal Music Week featuring Juno-winning singer/songwriter Leela Gilday from Yellowknife alongside three local acts: country singer Frannie Klein, fiddler Darren Lavallee, and Burnt-Project 1's Dave Boulanger. The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra will also take the stage for two dates, bringing the classics to the lunchtime crowd.
The series is another vibrant part of the Year of Music celebration in Manitoba.
