Chinese New Year
New Year is the most important festival in China. It's a time spent with family and friends enjoying food, music and dance. The date of Chinese New Year changes because the lunar calendar determines it. Even though the date changes, New Year's day usually falls between January 21 and February 20. In 2023, New Year's is January 21. In China, celebrations for the New Year last for weeks, with the first celebrations happening one week before (January 14) and ending with a lantern festival in February. Chinese New Year also marks the start of a new zodiac sign; 2023 is the year of the rabbit.
Year of the Rabbit
Chinese zodiac signs occur on a twelve-year cycle. There are twelve animals representing each sign, and in addition to these, there are five elements. 2023 is the year of the water rabbit; although the year of the rabbit occurs every twelve years, this element and sign combination occurs once every 60 years. So what does it mean to be a water rabbit? The rabbit signifies elegance, longevity, and peace (it's fitting that the peace sign resembles a rabbit) . Rabbits are known to be quick and skillful - what makes water rabbits unique is their ability to adapt quickly to new challenges or go with the flow.
