Cineplex VIP theatre coming to Winnipeg

Winnipeg is getting the most posh movie theatres this side of Toronto.

Cineplex is spending more than $6.5 million to convert the second-run Cinema City on McGillivray Boulevard and Kenaston Boulevard into a high-end first-run theatre, including a VIP portion.

A VIP theatre is for patrons who are 18 and older and features lounge-like chairs, and side tables for snacks that can be ordered and delivered to your seat.

There will be three VIP cinemas and eight traditional theatres in the new complex, which will be the only one of its kind  outside of Toronto, according to Cineplex officials.

Construction is slated to start in the new year.
