Bombers sign QB Buck Pierce
Free agent quarterback Buck Pierce has landed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Pierce signed with the Bombers today after spending his entire five-year CFL career with the B.C. Lions, racking up a 21-12-1 record as a starter in the CFL.
The 28-year-old appeared in 12 of 18 games with the Leos last year, a campaign shortened by concussion-related problems.
During that 2009 season, he led the club in passing yards with 2,272, including 10 TD passes and three, 300-yard passing games.
"We are very pleased to sign a player of Buck’s ability and experience," said general manager Joe Mack.
"He’s a proven winner and is a great addition to our depth at the quarterback position."
Pierce's best season came in 2008 when he threw for 3,018 yards and 19 touchdowns in just nine full games.
"I’m thrilled to come to a place that wants me — a place with great tradition and deeply passionate fans," Pierce said.
"I know the club is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and with the Bombers being so entrenched in the city of Winnipeg and the province of Manitoba, it’s going to be a great place to play."
