Winnipeg police are still on scene investigating an assault with weapon in front of an apartment building on Portage Avenue that sent two people to hospital.

Winnipeg police are investigating what appears to be a bloody incident on the sidewalk in front of a Portage Avenue apartment building after a Saturday night assault with a weapon that sent two to hospital.

Police blocked off the north sidewalk between Garry and Smith streets on Sunday, while officers were seen placing evidence markers and taking photographs.

CBC News observed a pool of blood on the ground outside of the Portage Avenue building and officers were seen going in and out of the apartment block. Police were still on scene investigating as of Sunday night.

Police said they responded to a call of an assault with a weapon, and that two people were taken to hospital in stable condition. No charges have been laid and no arrests had been made as of Sunday night, police said. The investigation has been taken over by the major crimes unit.
