A Winnipeg School Division trustee has handed in his resignation because he is moving outside the division boundaries.

Ward 7 trustee Allan Beach will leave the board of trustees on June 30.

"We're very sad to lose trustee Beach from our board and we wish him well in his new home," Winnipeg School Division board chair Mark Wasyliw said in a news release. "He provided an excellent understanding of staff relations and brought thoughtful and reflective debate to our meetings."

Beach was part of a recent initiative to have Grade 9 and 10 students receive basic workplace safety and health education, the release said.

The Public School Act mandates that a trustee must be a resident of the school division.
