7 charged in Easterville beating death
A total of seven people have been charged in the beating death of a man on a reserve near the central Manitoba community of Easterville, about 400 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg by Cedar Lake.
Second-degree murder charges were laid Thursday against a teenaged boy and a teenaged girl, RCMP said. Both remain in custody. Five others had already been charged.
The body of Ernest Abraham Young, 18, of the Chemawawin Cree Nation, was found on the morning of Dec. 31at theroadsidenear a house where police say he had earlier been in an altercation.
An autopsy done in Winnipeg found Young died of blunt force trauma.
On Jan. 2, RCMP charged Dustin Thomas, 19,and two boys who can't be identified with second-degree murder. The same charges were laid against Tiffany Umpherville, 18, and an underagegirl the next day.
The five youths charged are between 15 and 17 years old.
Officers with the RCMP's Chemawawin detachment continue to investigate the case, along with major crime investigators from Winnipeg and Thompson RCMP.
