The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is probing the case of a man who was injured during his arrest by London police.

On Friday, two officers were sent to an address on Huron street shortly after 7 p.m. in relation to an assault investigation.

A man was combative with the officers upon their arrival, and was arrested, according to police.

After he was taken to police headquarters, the man was found to have sustained an injury, according to investigators. He was transported to hospital, treated and released. The nature of the injury was not disclosed.

Police say a 30-year-old London man has been charged with assault and mischief under $5,000.

The SIU has been notified and will conduct an independent investigation.

The arms-length agency investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
