Provincial police have released the name of the person who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 in Southwold Township on Friday morning. He's been identified as 34-year-old Benjamin Dionisio of Toledo, Ohio.

A total of five vehicles were involved, including two tractor-trailers, one five-tonne commercial truck and two passenger vehicles.

Police said Dionisio was the driver of one of the passenger vehicles.

At the time of the crash all of the vehicles were travelling eastbound and were merging into one lane because of construction ahead.

Two people injured in the crash were taken to hospital with serious injuries. At last report they were listed in stable condition.

The collision, which occurred at around 11 a.m. Friday, forced the closure of the eastbound lanes of the highway at Iona Road for 11 hours. All lanes finally re-opened to traffic at around 10 o'clock Friday evening.

Police are asking any witnesses who haven't spoken yet to investigators to call Elgin County OPP at 1-888-210-1122.
