OPP identify human remains found near St. Thomas

OPP investigators have confirmed human remains found last week are those of a local man who went missing two years ago. Police also say the have ruled out foul play.

Remains are that of a St. Thomas man who went missing 2 years ago

Provincial police have identified the human remains found north of St. Thomas as those of a man who went missing in 2016.

Elgin County OPP investigators say the deceased is 52-year-old Kevin Savoie of St. Thomas.

Police received a report of human remains being discovered last Tuesday in the area of Turner Road in Central Elgin. A postmortem conducted on Thursday ruled out foul play.

Savoie was reported missing by St. Thomas Police on September 22, 2016. He was last seen a few weeks earlier at his Talbot Street residence. Investigators have not released any other details regarding the case.

The investigation is being led by the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, along with members of the Elgin County OPP Crime Unit, the OPP Forensic Identification Services, the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Central Elgin Fire Department.
