Multiple charges laid after London police officer repeatedly punched in the face

London police have arrested a 25-year-old man after a police officer was repeatedly punched in the face following a foot pursuit early Wednesday morning.

The suspect was wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, police say

London police have arrested a 25-year-old man after a police officer was repeatedly punched in the face following a foot pursuit early Wednesday morning.

According to police, an officer stopped a car at the intersection of Wellington Road and Montgomery Gate at around 12:45 a.m.. 

While talking to the driver of the vehicle, the officer determined the passenger was wanted on a warrant for charges related to allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.

When the suspect was approached, police say he pushed the female officer and fled. Following a brief foot chase, the suspect punched the officer in the face multiple times while she made an arrest.

Police say a large knife was also found on the suspect.

The officer was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Police have charged a 25-year-old London man with the following offences:

  • Assaulting a peace officer
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Escaping lawful custody
  • Failure to comply with recognizance x 3
  • Resisting arrest
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon

Because of the age of the alleged victim in the previous charges, the suspect has not been identified.
