A 33-year veteran of the London police is the subject of an investigation by the Niagara Regional Police Services.

Police won't say what prompted the investigation of Sgt. Dale Howe, who is suspended with pay while the investigation takes place.

In an email to CBC News, London police spokesperson Const. Sandasha Bough referred all questions to the Niagara police. She said the probe came in response to a request from the London police service.

"It is not uncommon to ask another police service to conduct an investigation," she said.

When ask what prompted the investigation, Bough responded:

"That is not information that we would be able to provide as it's an ongoing investigation by another police service and questions regarding the investigation should be directed to the Niagara Regional Police."

The NRPS said they can't comment about the probe became "the matter has not been brought before the courts and it would not be appropriate to provide comment that would jeopardize the integrity of that investigation or negatively impact a LPS member at this time."
