Severe thunderstorm brings rain, wind and power outages
Weather service had warned: 'Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches'
A severe thunderstorm blew through the London area Wednesday afternoon bringing high winds, pelting rain and power outages.
Environment Canada officials issued a weather warning at 2 p.m. for London, Strathroy and Middlesex County earlier in the day saying damaging wind gusts, heavy rain and even nickel-sized hail could be expected.
The warning proved to be true.
London Hydro started reporting outages in the downtown and the east-end of the city shortly after the rain started falling. Most London customers had hydro restored by 4 p.m.
Outside of the city, Hydro One continued to report sporadic outages across southwestern Ontario.
