A 60-year-old London man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that erupted on Frances Street in the city's east end.

The charge was announced Friday, a day after firefighters doused a fire that investigators believe was deliberately set.

Emergency crews responded to the fire on Thursday morning after a flurry of 911 calls from neighbours who spotted the billowing smoke.

The suspect was arrested at the scene of Thursday's fire and charged with arson causing damage to own property.

Initial estimates put the damage at $400,000.
