Fire forces residents from apartment building on William Street

Fire forced residents to flee from an apartment building at 872 William Street, just south of Grosvenor Street, late Thursday morning.

The flames were contained to a third-floor unit

No one was injured when fire broke out in a third-floor unit of an apartment building at 872 William Street at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Damage was contained to the unit. The building is owned by London and Middlesex Community Housing. (Andrew Lupton/CBC)

Fire forced residents to flee from an apartment building at 872 William St., just south of Grosvenor Street, late Thursday morning.

The flames were contained to an apartment on the third floor, which was heavily damaged. The entire building had to be evacuated as smoke spread to other units.

No one was injured. The occupant and a cat in the third-floor unit were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived.

There's no word yet on the cause of the fire.
