Hwy. 401 reopens after fatal collision near West Lorne Saturday

The eastbound lanes of Hwy. 401 near West Lorne, Ont. were closed for several hours on Saturday after a collision between a tractor trailer and a vehicle left one person dead.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near West Lorne, Ont. reopened Saturday afternoon after a fatal collision earlier in the day.

Ontario Provincial Police say the collision happened about 7:30 a.m. Saturday. 

The OPP say a tractor trailer was merging onto Hwy. 401 eastbound after leaving a service centre. An eastbound four-door red vehicle struck the rear of the tractor trailer unit.

The driver — and lone occupant — of the vehicle died at the scene. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

Eastbound traffic between Chatham-Kent and London along Hwy. 401 was rerouted at Graham Road for several hours.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.

The identify of the person who died has not been released.
