11-year-old cyclist killed in Elgin County
OPP say the cyclist was struck by a vehicle on Carter Road in Malahide Township
An 11-year-old child is dead following a collision between a car and a bicycle on Carter Road in Malahide Township Monday night, about 30 minutes east of St. Thomas.
Elgin County OPP say the youth was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead.
Police, along with Malahide firefighters and St. Thomas-Elgin paramedics responded to the collision on Carter Road, north of Highway 3, at around 9:10 p.m.
The OPP's technical collision investigators were on the scene late into the night.
"They're going to be able to map everything that's gone on. And they're also going to be able to take a look at the other vehicle," said Constable Adam Crewdson.
Carter Road between Highway 3 and Glencolin Line was closed for most of the night but has since been re-opened.
