The age range of patients seems to be skewing younger as the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 in the London region continues to grow.

Two new cases were reported Thursday by the Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU), a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s who recently returned from the United States.

The man is currently in hospital, health officials said, though the status of his health is unknown.

The region's largest hospital has taken steps to publicly post the number of patients being treated, including the unit where they're located.

Man hospitalized in Elgin County

Across southwestern Ontario, the number of cases also climbed. Southwestern Public Health reported a third case of COVID-19 in Elgin County on Thursday.

The patient is a man in his 70s who has been hospitalized, health officials said. They said they suspect the man contracted the virus from travel.

New case in Oxford County, Grey Bruce

In Oxford County, one new case was reported by the province, a woman in her 30s who likely caught the virus from close contact. That brings the number of cases in Oxford County up to two.

Grey Bruce Health Unit also confirmed one new case, a woman in her 60s who travelled outside the province. There are now six cases in Grey Bruce.

Ontario reported 170 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total to 858.

  • A previous version of this story said there were four new cases in the London region. However, there's one new case that was in today's count by the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU), and another case that will be added to the MLHU's list tomorrow.
