Heavy rains led to flooding along the Thames River, leaving Gibbons and Harris Parks under water. Residents are being cautioned to avoid the waterways.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is advising the public to stay away from waterways Thursday as heavy rain has caused flooding along the Thames River.

The UTRCA says much of the river received more than 100 millimetres of rain since Tuesday, including the areas of St. Marys, Stratford and London, Ont.

Because of the surge of precipitation, water has breached the banks in some areas, causing low lying areas to flood, including St. Marys Flats and Harris and Gibbons Parks in London.

The conservation authority is reminding the public to use extreme caution around waterways and to not drive through flooded areas. Parents are encouraged to keep children and pets away from rivers, creeks and other water bodies.
