City extends free downtown parking program until end of the year

London is extending a free parking program that started during the pandemic, hoping it keeps people coming downtown to support local businesses.

London is extending a free parking program that started during the pandemic, hoping it keeps people coming downtown to support local businesses.

Drivers parking downtown now have to use the promotional code 'CORE' to get two hours of free parking. The code is valid for on-street and municipal parking lots, but not for privately managed spots.

"We've heard from businesses that this parking promotion has been a useful support during the pandemic, and as we look ahead to brighter days when we can welcome more visitors to the core, the city remains committed to providing flexible and responsive support to business needs," Jim Yanchula, the city's manager of core area and urban regeneration, said in a statement.

There's also free one-hour parking along Dundas Place, with no code required, and 18 short-term parking spots for curb-side pickups and delivery.

The free parking with the HonkMobile app is an extension of the previous promotion, launched during the summer of 2020. Drivers used the free parking, with the promo code B2B20, 50,000 times, the city said.

The new promotion code will be available until Dec. 31, 2021.
