1 dead, 3 adults and child sent to hospital following crash on Norfolk County highway

A crash on a Norfolk County highway north of Simcoe has left one person dead, and sent three adults and a child to hospital on Thursday afternoon.

A crash on a Norfolk County highway north of Simcoe, Ont., left one person dead, and sent three adults and a child to hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene of a collision between an SUV and a motor vehicle at the intersection of Highway 24 and Concession 7 of Townsend at about 1:40 p.m.

Norfolk County OPP said the driver of the motor vehicle died on the scene. The passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital with serious injuries. The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of family.

A child and two adults from the SUV were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Members of the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Highway 24 is expected to be closed between Windham Road 6 and Windham Road 7 until about 11 p.m. Thursday.
