1 dead, 2 in hospital following head-on collision on Highbury Ave

London police are investigating a head-on collision that left one person dead and two others in hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened near Scotland Drive just before 1 p.m. Monday

London police are investigating a head-on collision that left one person dead and two others in hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, the collision happened on Highbury Avenue near Scotland Drive in the city's south end just before 1 p.m.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, but police say it did not happen at an intersection.

"There were three people involved and all three were transported to hospital where one was pronounced deceased," said Const. Jessica Kalita.

Police say the 68-year-old female passenger died, while the 71-year old male driver remains in serious condition. 

The 57-year-old driver of the second vehicle also remains in serious condition.

Police have not released the name of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.

A section of Highbury Avenue was closed for several hours, but has since re-opened.
