Lead singer for Doug and the Slugs dies

Doug Bennett, the lead singer of the Canadian indie band Doug and the Slugs has died.

Doug Bennett, the lead singer of the Canadian indie band Doug and the Slugs, died Saturday following an undisclosed lengthy illness. He was 52.

Doug and the Slugs released four albums that went gold.

Bennett wrote a number of the band's hits from the early '80s like Day by Day, Too Bad, Tomcat Prowl and Making It Work.

The Toronto-born Bennett moved to Vancouver in 1973, forming the band in 1977.
