WEEKEND | Cold temperatures envelope KW as gas prices climb

It's going to be a cold weekend, according to Environment Canada. With the wind chill it will feel more like -16 C Saturday morning and -8 C in the afternoon.

Cooler temperatures will stick around for much of the weekend in Waterloo Region. 

On Saturday, the high is -2 C, but with the windchill, that will feel more like -16 C.

Flurries are expected to end early Saturday morning, with winds gusting between 20 and 40 kilometres per hour late in the morning.

A clear night is in the forecast for Saturday with the temperature dipping to a low of -8 C overnight.

Warmer temperatures and sunshine are on the way on Sunday. Sunday's high is forecast to be 0 C, with a chance of flurries in the evening and an overnight low of  -7 C.

Increase in gas prices

Gas prices went up this week. On Friday, the average gas prices around Kitchener-Waterloo were near $1.04/L compared to last week, where gas prices were in the mid to high 90s.

The lowest price on Friday was  $0.99/L at the Petro Canada gas station on Highland Road in Kitchener.

Fun things to do

It's that time of year again: The Christkindl Market at Kitchener city hall is up for the weekend. 

New at the Christkindl Market this year is the Kinder Iglu for children from Friday through Sunday.

There's also a modern take on the classic tale of The Velveteen Rabbit at the Registry Theatre in Kitchener this Saturday. There are shows at  2:00 pm and 6:30 pm.
